Dao in daily life

"The Laozi would say that not only are mystical enlightenment and our everyday lives related, but that by separating them, we have fundamentally misunderstood both." ~ Michael Puett, The Path: What Chinese Philosophers Can Teach Us About the Good Life.

Separating enlightenment from everyday life moves us further from the Dao. People think they are different states of being, however, to be one with Dao we have to remember there is no differentiation. I still struggle with this some days. The connectedness in the universe escapes me when I am too focused on singular personal problems. I have experienced becoming one with the Dao when performing daily tasks, once while driving down the road, and this is what Laozi intends. Perhaps driving is not the best time to experience mystical enlightenment but I did not plan it either. Regardless, Daoism teaches us to find enlightenment in every day life. It is not difficult if we are open to receiving the experience.
